NO Double or Nothing in Round 4.

Identify the Famous Person (real or fictional)

10 pts. Born January 20, 1946 in Missoula, Montana to a research scientist father, this famous person decided to study filmmaking while attending college in Philadelphia.  There, he was a roommate with David Byrne, who many considered “the weird one.”

8 pts. For five years, he worked on his first film, unable to find anyone who would release what was called “a disturbingly strange movie.”  This black and white work, known in the US as Eraserhead, was finally released in 1977.

6 pts. He teamed up with Mel Brooks to create the critically acclaimed film “The Elephant Man” in 1980.  His first major-budget movie was a prize-winning work of science fiction.  While popular, with a large cult following, Dune was a commercial failure.

4 pts. In 1990, the surreal television show he created with Mark Frost, Twin Peaks, captivated the North American audience for its entire first season with the question “Who Killed Laura Palmer?”

2 pts.  In 1992, he won best picture at the Cannes Film Festival for “Wild at Heart.”  More recent works include “Mulholland Drive” and “The Lost Highway.”
