For the Public Good

I recently wrote a book called “For the Public Good: Starting an Eduational or Research Non-profit Organization.” You can read excerpts of it online. I still don’t know where to get ahold of one of these eBooks, but I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.

Next Gen by Marie Richie on FlickRWhen I started, I thought I was in way over my head. The task seemed enormous. It took me like two days to get a proper outline. I even called my mom, the former Accountant’s Assistant, Bookkeeper and Trust Officer and asked her what she knew about it. Nothing it turns out. She did, however, challenge the assumptions that I had made when I first pitched the book to DocRocket, and much to my pleasure, found out that I’d learned more than I thought during the course of my very slow research on my poor, old laptop.

“Fine then,” I said to no one in particuluar when I hung up the phone. “I can write a book about this.” And, I did.

I also updated the Books & Goods section of the website

A Few More Fine Places in Portland

I recently wrote a few Point of Interest reviews for wCities. I thought the Sapphire Hotel was a Heathers Vs. Derby Liberation Front -- Rose City Rollersvery good choice, and began really craving an adult beverage. Instead of hoofing it all the way down to the hotel, we stopped in @ the Twilight and had a very Twin Peaks sort of evening like one finds in this part of town.

I also wrote an event review and annoucement for the Rose City Rollers. They are actually playing quite a few dates, but only the championship bout it listed. You ought to go to their website and check out getting some tickets. It’s a lot of fun, even if they lose.

The Crow Bar up on Mississippi was also reviewed, though I did so with trepidation. I heard a story recently about the trendsters over there doing some really blatantly racist things to kids that lived and visited the neighborhood. I have no reason to know whether this is true or not, though I would like to know.

I finally got to write up Hammy’s Pizza — perhaps the best thing that’s happened to the immediate area around here in awhile. They deliver sustainable pizza ’til 4am and are always most excellent. I recommend the minestrone. I prefer the calzone to the ‘za, but that’s just me.

Keep Internet Radio Alive

Save My JazzI wrote a piece that started out as a letter to my congresspeople, urging them to take action on a recent fees ruling by the Library of Congress that internet radio stations will be required to pay incredible fees that are sure to put them all out of business — fees that broadcast stations do NOT have to pay. Wow!

I urge anyone who lives in the US and enjoys internet radio (including iTunes stations) to contact their representative and let them know what you think about this. It was turned back last time and public outcry is still effective.

Please do what you can. And, if you like what I wrote, I give you permission to copy and paste at will — this is for the public good.

Good luck, citizen!
