Chllin’ w/ February

Yeah, you know me, just hangin’ around… .

My normal computer just decided to work today after being down for over a month, leaving me to work and search for work on my 10-year-old laptop computer, that did its gallant best. Just Hangin' Out Waiting for Feeding TimeHowever, it could take as long as 10 min to load some webpages, and that makes research very slow. No multiple windows. Either mail or browsing could be open, not both, and I had to compose everything in textpad to take to Matt’s computer for spell-checking. Uff da! I’ve missed my desktop very, very much.

As such, I would have told you last week about some reviews I did for wCities, including the darling of local media, Lovely Hula Hands and, a pretty decent jazz club with a crazy good beer selection, The Blue Monk.

My current projects for this month have also included two eBooks. The first one was done on the 15th, called, Ecological Niche Marketing, and is about 150 standard pages. The second one, I got a bit of an extension to finish. It’s called, Setting Up Your Educational or Research Non-Profit (catchy, no?) and should be about 100 standard pages, hopefully done in the next few days. More on those later when I find out where you can buy them.

I wrote a few last year, too. One, Upcycling for Art and Profit, turned out espcecially nice, or so I thought, and I don’t know where to find that one either. I’ll keep you posted.

A Heavy Metal Surprise

It’s the best of lists, it’s the worst of lists… . Craigslist.org is a wonderful thing, but you do have to be careful. I’ve had a few clients that I wrote for on ‘ol CL not be forthcoming with communication or payment. As such, I posted the articles in question online myself.

Kiss Meets the Phantom of the PunchbowlThe most recent one was an “eligibility assignment” that resulted from answering a CL posting. My assignment was to write an article about Eddie “Fingers” Ojeda, formerly of Twisted Sister. Well, I just happen to be a big heavy metal fan, so I wrote it up one morning, shortly after my regular computer had “blown up.” Some folks with a dubious email address that opened up the Yahoo! online mail client. I had already done the work, so I sent it directly from my own address as a regular email. It was already written before I realized this, and thought, “what the heck? I’m probably just being suspiscious.”

Of course, I never did hear back, (Read on …)

I Am So Very Pleased

Nothing breeds success like success, eh? It looks as if I’ll be doing a June show of my Bride with Beerphotography and writing at the Roots Organic Brewery that I recently reviewed for wCities.

Not only am I excited about this as a photographer but also, because I’m looking forward to doing some writing on the virtues of organic wine, beer and distillates. As is my custom, my show will focus on the writing as well as photography in an interactive manner. I really look forward to it.

What’s even cooler is that I got the gig because of the review I wrote as well as having a wordpress blog that I can link to with my media. I cannot say how very happy I am that tools such as word press exist!

Bigger, Louder and Steppin’ Out - We’re Going to Build a Moon Base and More

Well, I’m about 30 posts into it now, so I might as well tell you about my big news: I’ve gotten a gig as the blogger of a website about NASA’s Constellation Program.

Orion in Lunar Orbit - artist's impressionBriefly, it is the successor to the Space Shuttle program (and pretty much everything else), thanks to a 2004 speach by GW. The stated goals NASA came up with in the next few months is a 200-point mission that extends out to at least 2024 and includes International Space Station service, orital tests, a manned mission to the moon, construction of a moon base and then manned missions to Mars. No timetable exists for the last item, perhaps because the first phase of moonbase construction isn’t due to be complete for 14 years.

I’ll be updating it 2-3x a day for the entire month of February. (Read on …)

It’s ‘Shroom Time

Shitake on LogAnother photo of mine has been featured on a weblog, this time to illustrate a recipe from a local cooking show called A Fork in the Road.  You know you want some Shitake Mushroom and Wild Rice Stuffed and Planked Whole Michigan Whitefish. Mmmm…I do like me some fish, and mushrooms make just about everything better.  Of course, we use salmon out here, so I’m a bit partial to the salmonoids.
The picure itself is of my pal Marsha’s shitake logs that are now residing (or languishing for the season) in my back yard. They cropped like mad last summer, but have been too darn wet since the rains began (though they’ve since quit in a very unseasonable manner) and attacked by mad, mad squirrels.

I look forward to another batch of fine ’shrooms so I can make more of my corriander infused oil-packed shitakes.  Just to let you know, they are the secret ingredient in Matt’s Pasta Salad that he scarfs down like nothing, except perhaps pepperonni pizza.  I prefer some ’shrooms, myself.
