Sites Up - One More in Progress

Sons of AsgardI’ve got Matt’s sites up, though I need to fix one of the pages on one and add content on another.

The first is Meet the Greys — think of it as My 3 Aliens but, w/ cheese. The other is the one I prefer, but since they’re selling it to Hollywood, all the cool aspects of the story will undoubtedly be gone in the final product if there ever is a cartoon of it. It’s called Sons of Asgard, and it’s the complicated backstory as to why Thor always kept trusting Loki when they got to be grown up gods by telling the story of their shared youth. They’re also joined by Sif who is righteously bad azz as the girl that keeps it all together when things get really hairy.

For Kristin’s site and in an effort to just get generally better, I’m trying to get a become a bit more adept with the Flash, so I’m putting slideshows together for her with content she’s writing. It’ll be slick, but it’s a lengthy process unless you’re very adept, indeed. I’m getting there, hopefully. It would be nice to spend more time on actual design rather than just bumbling around and figuring out what I even can do.

On the Way to the Farm, I Got Distracted

I’m making a website for Matt. You know, for Xmas. I’m also working on one that I’m doing in trade for some real lessons and lighting help in a studio situation. More on Matt’s studio session later when I finally have time to go through the pics.

In the meanwhile, I’m just helping him get ready for the Licensing Expo Show in New York. He leaves tomorrow and will be gone nearly 3 weeks. Yikes! He’s a migrant worker in LA. Well, I suppose most everyone is.
Well, I’ll let you know how they come out when I’m done, but in the meanwhile, I’m finding a few little apps here and there that are new, at least to me, since I last did major overhauling work on my own site. Perhaps it’s time for an update - especially w/ the photos section.

Well, here goes w/ a new slideshow app - it’s my set of pictures of agriculture, horticulture, silviculture and all the rest of the -ultures that in the end, are all ag to me.

For the Public Good

I recently wrote a book called “For the Public Good: Starting an Eduational or Research Non-profit Organization.” You can read excerpts of it online. I still don’t know where to get ahold of one of these eBooks, but I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.

Next Gen by Marie Richie on FlickRWhen I started, I thought I was in way over my head. The task seemed enormous. It took me like two days to get a proper outline. I even called my mom, the former Accountant’s Assistant, Bookkeeper and Trust Officer and asked her what she knew about it. Nothing it turns out. She did, however, challenge the assumptions that I had made when I first pitched the book to DocRocket, and much to my pleasure, found out that I’d learned more than I thought during the course of my very slow research on my poor, old laptop.

“Fine then,” I said to no one in particuluar when I hung up the phone. “I can write a book about this.” And, I did.

I also updated the Books & Goods section of the website

It Had to Happen Sometime

Raspberry DoughnutIt might as well be now. I got my very first rude editorial comments from the editor of a college recommendation website this weekend. Up until now, I’ve been treated pretty well as a general rule.

I think the lesson here is that while there are a few amazing jobs on craigslist.org, a great many of the writing jobs either don’t pay well or don’t pay at all. Often what starts out as a good paying gig, just sort of evaporates as the client flakes out on you. Sometimes (Read on …)

Will Wonders Never Cease?

What a fantastic little app I just found. It’s called Trippermap!

Sadly, WordPress doesn’t seem to like the flash-java interface very much, or I’d show it to ya here. You can see a screen cap, though.TripperMap Screenshot
I’ve been bummed out that I’ve not put the requisite GPS tags on my photos to generate proper maps. Someone figured out how to take FlickR tags and automate the process. It’s not perfect yet, but it’s a big step in the right direction.

I’m a big fan of the simple solution to all my tedious chores. In fact, I’m such a believer in technology and the collective cleverness of 6 billion people, that often, until I find such a solution, many of my tedious chores remain undone.

I am now a firm believer in morning sunshine and a little “free” time to clear the head. I had somehow managed to loose my username for this — not thinking that I could just look the problem up on wordpress documentation and find the answer in short order. Sheesh!

Blunt Force Trauma

Well, it’s been a very interesting time @ Sillydog Media. I’ve got the website completely up and running. I think you’ll like what I’ve done with the picture links at the bottom.

I’ve also jumped into the world of publishing. A nice, little service called Lulu.com will create all manner of content and create it on demand for a small cut. I’ve even got my own little online store to show off all my groovy new stuff. Look for more exciting content in subsequent posts, now that I can do so again.

Sorry to leave you high and dry like that, dear reader.
